What Comes First
May 20, 2026
We spend a lot of time arranging our lives around what comes next.
Deadlines. Expectations. Responsibilities.
The urgent has a way of lining up quickly and demanding to be first.
But before anything moves forward well, something else has to come first.
Clarity comes first.
Not certainty.
Just enough understanding to know what matters and what does not.
Without clarity, effort scatters.
Health comes first.
Not perfection.
Care, attention, listening to what your body has been trying to say quietly.
Everything else depends on this foundation.
Values come first.
They are the compass, even when the path is unclear.
Without them, success feels hollow and choices lose their shape.
Connection comes first.
To people who see you, to work that means something, and to yourself…especially when life gets loud.
Presence comes first.
Because a distracted life is not a full one, no matter how productive it looks.
We are taught to place these things in service of everything else.
After the work is done, after the needs are met, after there is more time.
But here is the quieter truth.
If nothing comes first for you, nothing truly works for you.
Putting yourself first is not selfish. It is responsible.
It is how clarity stays clear.
How health is protected.
How values are lived instead of admired.
How connection remains real.
How presence becomes possible.
What comes first is not the to-do list.
It is the person living the life
Resilience Reset: And that person is you.
