What Are You Spending?
Sep 10, 2026
We talk a lot about earning.
Earning money, earning respect, and earning success.
But far less about spending.
And yet, spending is where our values are revealed.
We spend money every day, sometimes thoughtfully, sometimes reactively, sometimes trying to fill a gap that money was never meant to fill. Money comes and goes. It always has. It always will. But how we spend it tells a story about what we believe matters most.
We also spend time.
And time is not renewable.
Every yes spends time on something.
Every no protects time for something else.
Time is the one currency we never get back, yet we often spend it as if we have an unlimited supply. We spend it scrolling, we spend it worrying, we spend it replaying conversations that are already over. And we spend it waiting for the perfect moment instead of stepping into the moment we are already in.
And then there is the most overlooked expense of all.
We spend other people’s time.
Every meeting, every call, every email, and every request.
When we are late, distracted, unprepared, or unclear, we are spending someone else’s life without asking permission. Other people’s time is sacred. When you honor it, trust grows. When you waste it, trust erodes.
Here is the deeper truth I have learned over time.
You cannot spend well externally if you are spending poorly internally.
If you are constantly spending your energy on resentment, fear, or comparison, it shows up everywhere else. If you are spending your attention on what you lack, you will never feel rich no matter how much you earn. If you are spending your emotional bandwidth trying to be everything to everyone, you will eventually bankrupt yourself.
Leadership. Love. Fulfillment. Resilience.
All of them come down to spending.
Spend money aligned with your values.
Spend time where you are fully present.
Spend energy on what strengthens you.
Spend words with intention.
Spend attention on what is real, not what is loud.
And just as important…
Stop overspending on what drains you.
Stop spending time proving yourself.
Stop spending energy carrying what is not yours.
Stop spending your life waiting for permission.
At the end of the day, your legacy will not be what you accumulated.
It will be what you chose to spend.
Resilience Reset: Spend wisely.
