The Power Hidden Inside the “Dis” Words
Dec 04, 2025
It’s interesting how the same three letters can shape two very different worlds.
On one side, we have words like disease and distress. Two heavy words, full of weight, uncertainty, and fear. They remind us of the moments we never asked for. The seasons that knock the wind out of us. The chapters we wouldn’t choose, yet somehow end up defining us.
But on the other side is a quieter “dis” word.
A softer one.
A word with its own kind of strength: discover.
It’s the reminder that even in our toughest seasons, something new is being revealed.
In my own life, disease and distress have visited more times than I ever wanted to count. They brought challenge. They brought truth. They brought the kind of discomfort that forces you to stop pretending you’re fine.
Yet every time, right beside them…sometimes hidden, sometimes faint …was discovery.
Discovery of courage I never knew I had.
Discovery of resilience I didn’t believe belonged to me.
Discovery of people, purpose, and pathways I would have never seen otherwise.
The “dis” words can break you open…or they can break you free.
Disease can strip away what doesn’t matter.
Distress can sharpen what does.
Discovery can show you who you were meant to be all along.

Life will always hand you the hard words. But you get to choose the meaning you make from them. You get to decide whether they become the ending…or the invitation.
When the difficult “dis” shows up, look for the other one standing quietly beside it. The one leading you forward, not back.
Because every time life tears something down, it also reveals something waiting to rise.
And that is the discovery worth trusting.
Resilience Reset: What “dis” word are you using? It wants to teach you something.
