Taking a Day Off

Jul 22, 2026

For years, I wore busyness like a badge.

Back-to-back meetings.
Flights, keynotes, coaching calls.
Deadlines that felt important because they were full.

I told myself I was building something meaningful. Often, I was.

But I was also proving something.

Somewhere along the way, many of us learned that value is measured by output. That rest must be earned. That slowing down is indulgent.

It is not.

Taking a day off is not a withdrawal from purpose. It is an investment in it.

I have learned this the long way.

When I was running at full speed in corporate boardrooms.
When I was navigating hospital rooms in a gown instead of a suit.
When life made the decision for me because I would not.

A day off interrupts the noise long enough for you to hear yourself again.

It creates space for reflection instead of reaction.
For clarity instead of urgency.
For choice instead of momentum.

The leaders I respect most are not the ones who never stop. They are the ones who know when to.

They understand something subtle and powerful.

Energy is finite, attention is sacred.

Presence is earned.

When you take a day off intentionally, you return differently.

More decisive, grounded, more aligned with what actually matters.

You notice what you have been tolerating.
You remember what you care about.
You see where you have been saying yes out of habit instead of conviction.

Taking a day off is not about escape. It is about recalibration.

It is a quiet act of leadership.

It says, I trust that the world will continue without my constant management.
It says, my worth is not measured in constant motion.
It says, I choose sustainability over spectacle.

If you lead a company, a board, a family, a movement, this is not optional. It is responsible.

Resilience is not built in the sprint. It is built in the pause between sprints.

So take the day.

Turn off the notifications.
Leave the inbox untouched.
Go for a long walk.
Sit at a kitchen table with a cup of coffee and no agenda.

Let your nervous system exhale…then watch what happens.

The next decision becomes clearer, the next conversation becomes calmer, and.
The next step becomes deliberate instead of driven.

A single day can reset a trajectory.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can dois nothing at all.

And from that nothing comes your next becoming.

Resilience Reset: Rest is demonstrating resilience.
